What is Remy Hair?

What is Remy Hair?

Remy is the highest grade of quality for hair extensions. People who are serious about hair extensions almost always choose 100% human remy hair. Remy hair is the easiest to work with, lasts the longest, and looks the most natural.

Hair described as “remy” or “remi” has been cut in a special way that reduces tangling and matting. It all has to do with the hairs’ cuticle.

The cuticles are on the outside surface of each hair strand. These microscopic pieces form a protective shell around the hair shaft in a scale-like pattern. If the cuticles are facing different directions, they catch and tangle.

Before a head of hair is cut from a donor, it is braided or placed in a ponytail. After removal, this head of hair is kept bundled as it is processed and prepared for use as hair extensions. Because hair is cut so that all the cuticles are facing the same direction, remy hair resists tangling and looks extremely natural.

Hair that isn’t remy was probably collected from brushing, or from hair that is gathered from the floor after being cut. Babe only uses Remy hair for our human hair extensions, although we do have a line of synthetic Clip-In Extensions.
