ICYMI: Joseph Maine is Babe’s first-ever Pro Ambassador. The celebrity hairstylist shares that it’s a “huge honor” to be our Pro Ambassador. “I'm so passionate about the brand and the hair. I love using Babe on my clients and educating other hairstylists, so it feels very natural to me.”
As Joseph aligns with our mission of empowerment, he is a perfect fit. “I aim to empower stylists with education. Similar to Babe, I inspire them within the salon to be able to build their business. From there, they can craft long-lasting relationships with their clients and other stylists to foster community.”
We chatted with Joseph about his start with extensions, his advice for stylists new to extensions, and more. Get to know Joseph on a more personal level and discover what he expects to come within the extensions industry.
A Little About Joseph
Joseph Maine is a Los Angeles–based hairstylist, founder of Trademark Beauty, and Artistic Director for Color Wow. Trained under Serge Normant, he built his career mastering the demands of celebrity, editorial, runway, and advertising work. His clientele includes Nicole Scherzinger, Katie Holmes, Reneé Rapp, Ashley Benson, and Sophia Bush, with features in ELLE, Marie Claire, InStyle, Grazia, New York Times Magazine, and GQ. Joseph brings this wealth of experience to stylists everywhere, sharing techniques, trends, and insights to help elevate their craft. This is exactly why we tapped him to be a Babe Pro Ambassador.

Babe + Joseph = Match Made in Hair Heaven
Joseph’s first introduction to Babe came from one of his celebrity clients. “I was working with one of my clients, and I was really impressed by the quality of her hair extensions. She texted her colorist to find out who did her extensions. Turns out, they were from Babe.”
From there, Joseph attended a 2-day extension course where he learned 8 different methods. This is our Mastery in Motion class, which gives you the ability to build a hair empire with Babe in as little as 2 days. “I knew that hair extensions weren’t a one-size-fits-all solution, so it was important for me to learn as many methods as possible straight out of the gate.”
Over the years, he has become obsessed with a few of our methods. “I use the Tape-Ins and the Ideal Hybrid Wefts the most, but I've recently really fallen in love with the Quick Fit Tape Wefts.”

How Extensions Elevate His Craft
Joseph swears that extensions elevate nearly any look he plans to create. “I say this all the time: I’m using hair extensions 90% of the time you see one of my red carpet looks. They've really helped me have more voluminous looks, longer-lasting looks, and really transformative looks that I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise,” he emphasizes.
When it comes to creating looks for red carpets, editorials, or runways, he swears that extensions help him boost his creativity. “There are so many looks that I could not achieve without hair extensions. Even some of the people with the best hair in the world don't have 30-inch hair. So, there are so many fun things that you can do with hair extensions, and I definitely would not have the wide array of hairstyles I do without hair extensions.” After all, hair is art, and top Babe stylists know extensions can aid in the creation of their craft. Extensions aren’t just “nice to have,” they’re staples for master stylists who aim to elevate.
One of his most recent looks that comes to mind that affirms this point is his experience with actress Ashley Benson. “We had gone straight from New York Fashion Week into Paris Fashion Week, and we were just having a good time because we knew we had so many events that we were going to get her ready for that we could really play with each and every one.” Joseph notes that they did about 20 different looks together, playing with styles, lengths, and color, something he wouldn’t be able to do without hair extensions.

Expert Advice for Stylist Success
Joseph has been using extensions for a while, though this one trick helped him out when he first started incorporating them into his offerings. “When I first started offering hair extensions in the salon, I started with one method, and I ordered 12 different colors that my clients most often came in with. I was able to play up the instant gratification my clients were looking for whenever they were complaining about how thin their hair was, wanting their hair to last for a long time at an upcoming event, etc. I could talk to them about the specific method that was very easy and quick to install, and I could install it right at the end of their haircut.”
This is especially helpful because “if you already have an array of extensions in the salon, you can give clients what they need right then and there. Sometimes you can lose clients during the process of offering them different methods, ordering the hair, waiting for it to come in, and rescheduling them.”
If you’re dealing with a client who is nervous about extensions, Joseph says to be as informative as possible. “Give them all the details, the good and the bad. It's important to just lead with all those things that they can expect because with knowledge will come comfort. Knowing what they're getting themselves into and starting off with the method that is very easy to take care of is always best for those nervous clients.”
Should they need a little extra push, remind them how empowering extensions can be. “As cheesy as it sounds, when you look good, you feel good,” says Joseph. “I've had so many clients that have gone through major health issues that have caused hair loss or have never had hair in their entire life that looked the way they wanted to. When hair extensions help someone achieve that, you instantly see them light up, and you can see how it makes them feel. It's why people continue to get hair extensions for years and years because it's a very easy way to make you feel great.”
The Future of Hair Extensions, According to Joseph
The future of hair extensions is bright. “I see hair extensions catching up with hair color,” says Joseph. “It doesn’t always feel like we have the right fit for our clients, based on hair color methods. But we're seeing that start to catch up, and I'm excited to see what new methods come out.”
Beyond better hair color matching, Joseph believes extensions are poised to become “a little more seamless, a little easier to install, and a little more invisible.”
